Finding love online: It really works!
With a business schedule that can be taxing in terms of time, not to mention location, it's often difficult to forge lifelong relationships. For me, personally, it was always that I thought I'd found "the one" - only to have one of us move in the near future.
Living overseas for many years, and often changing my location as my business life dictated with new contracts opening up all over the world, I never thought I had time to pursue a meaningful relationship. Of course I would meet interesting people from time to time, though living and working in a circle of expats means that there are no guarantees that either end of the partnership has any certainly as to which country they'll be in during the following years, and in some cases, even the following months.
However, I thought I'd write in with a success story - about the one who didn't get away! This is one expat tale intended to give one and all some hope - and proof that online dating amongst expats can have some very pleasant results! I met my partner (now husband) online when we were both living in Brazil. We didn't know each other previously, but we got in contact through expats dating online, and it turns out that not only did we have the same location, schedules, and interests, but we also managed to keep the fledgling relationship going when it was time to leave Brazil. Of course, it was through a fortuitous combination of business meetings in Helsinki, conferences in Berlin, and weekends away in London hotels. But as the time passed, we realised we were made for each other, and that a long distance relationship wasn't on the cards. My partner proposed to me on a holiday in the States, out of the blue, in a conversation that began with trying to choose from a list of Los Angeles hotels, but then spontaneously ended with a ring and an answer in the affirmative!
Brazil is a strange place for a Brit to meet a Frenchman, but with love online anything is possible. Like they say in the fairytales, it all ended happily ever after - but in real life it's not just the cinderellas who get to find their prince charmings.
