International Dating for Expats
Being an expat doesn't have to be a lonely experience, but in 'real' life it can be difficult to meet people. Most friends are made in school/college, at work, or in social situations. Your work and school friends will obviously be from your homeland and it can be tricky to fit into social situations when you are on your own. How many women would just walk into a bar alone and chat to people?
I was an expat in Spain for almost 8 years so I have personal experience of
knowing how difficult it can be to meet people. I wasn't particularly looking
for a date at all, but in general it does seem to be mostly couples within the
expats community and 'breaking in' as a single person can be hard. Many of the
wives see you as a threat, and the men see you as an 'easy target'. The fact
is, that many who may originally have moved as a couple end up as being two
singles. Life abroad isn't always the bed of roses you expect and there is usually
one who likes it more than the other.

I have also lived in Turkey and found the men there very pushy, if you are single you are a walking target and everywhere you go will be 'chatted up', especially by the younger Turkish men. There are many older British expats women living over there married to young Turkish men and when dating in Turkey, you do have to be careful that the men are attracted to you for the right reasons. Having said that, there are also many happy 'mixed' marriages as well.
Different accents or languages can sound very attractive but are you really compatible or are culture and languages going to become a barrier if you decide to indulge in international dating?
Getting hundreds of emails a day from (mostly guys) asking for sex is not what you want from a dating site. Free to join and use sites do tend attract the wrong kind of people, very rarely will people take the trouble to fill in a profile, pay their membership and then spam other members, but a 'general' dating site isn't necessarily going to find you the results you are looking for.

Chinese women have certain expectations of their men that, while are not completely unknown in the West, are often looked down upon. Behavior that an American or English man might consider “gold-digging” is often quite acceptable in Chinese society. Some of this, of course, is cultural. The feminist movement never hit China in the same way that it did the West, and many cultural ideas about gender roles are still quite traditional -- the man is the breadwinner, the woman the head of the household. For any expats looking for a relationship in China, this way of life could be difficult (although I could easily get used to being showered with gifts!) Read more about Dating in China
